Echoes of Life

Consent form

Family Consent and Likeness Release

Please read the terms, fill in the details, and sign with your finger or mouse. It takes about three minutes, and we’ll email you a copy.

For: Memorial films, tribute films, restored photographs of someone who has passed

Your authority

By signing, you confirm that you are the spouse, next of kin, executor or another person with authority to make decisions about how this person is remembered, and that, to your knowledge, no other family member with equal or greater authority objects. If you are not sure, please tell us before signing.

What you allow us to do

You allow Echoes of Life LLC to use the photographs, videos, recordings and information you provide (“your materials”) to make the film you ordered, and specifically to:

  • restore, repair, crop and color-correct your photographs;
  • enlarge a photograph of the person and place it into a new setting, so that the face in the film is the face in your photograph;
  • add gentle, natural motion to photographs — a breath, a blink, a turn of the head, hair moving in a breeze;
  • set the film to licensed music, and add names, dates and words you approve;
  • use trusted third-party processing services to do this work, under the privacy terms below.

Restoring the photographs

Old prints fade, and some fade badly. Where the color and detail have largely gone, software cannot recover what is no longer in the paper. It rebuilds it — and where the face is small or faded, part of what it rebuilds is the face itself. In our own testing this has changed a person’s expression.

  • So we offer two kinds of restoration, and we would like you to choose. Your choice is recorded below with this form.
  • Either way, nothing is delivered until you have seen it and told us it looks like them.

Voice

A film can include a spoken voice. There are three ways to do it and the choice is yours; you make it below and it is recorded with this form.

  • If you give us a real recording, we use it exactly as it is. That is always our first preference and we will ask you for one.
  • Where no recording exists, we can produce a spoken line using software. It is not your relative’s voice — it is an approximation created by a computer, and it may not sound like them to people who knew them well. We will tell you exactly which words are generated, and you will hear it before anyone else does.
  • Many families choose no voice at all: music only, or words shown on screen. It is never the lesser choice.

What we will not do

  • We will not present a generated voice as a real recording. If a voice is generated, we will say so, here and on delivery.
  • We will not portray real events that did not happen as though they were documentary record. Some films place the person in an imagined setting — a garden, a shore, a place of rest. These are plainly symbolic, and we will always describe them to you that way.
  • We will not build a likeness model of your relative, or generate their face. The face in the film is the face in your photograph, enlarged and placed into the scene.
  • We will not use your film or your photographs to advertise unless you choose to allow it below.
  • We will not share or sell your materials, and we will not permit our providers to use them to train their own models.

You approve before anyone sees it

We send you a private preview and include up to two rounds of changes. The film is not delivered to the funeral home or shown anywhere until you tell us it looks like them and feels right.

Privacy and deletion

We keep your materials only as long as needed to make the film, then delete them within 90 days after delivery. You can ask us to delete them sooner at any time, and we will confirm in writing. We keep a copy of the finished film for one year so we can send you another copy if you lose it, unless you ask us to delete it. This signed form, and the record of your order, we keep for seven years — that is a tax and accounting requirement, and it is how we can show later exactly what you agreed to.

Ownership and your film

Your photographs and recordings remain yours. Echoes of Life keeps the rights it owns in its own contribution — the editing, the arrangement, the production work — and gives you a permanent, worldwide, royalty-free license to keep, copy, share and show the finished film for personal, family and memorial purposes, forever, at no further charge. We do not claim exclusive ownership of every element: some parts are generated, and copyright may not be available for them. A funeral home may show the film at the service for this person. Using it in anyone’s advertising needs separate written permission.

Your photographs and your film

Your photographs remain yours. You confirm that you have the right to share them with us. If a professional photographer took some of them, tell us and we will check with you before using them. Some photographs may include other people, and you confirm that you are comfortable with them appearing in a private family memorial film.

  • You may keep, copy, share and show the finished film for personal and memorial purposes, forever, at no extra charge. The funeral home may show it at the services and on its tribute page for this person.

Changing your mind

You may withdraw this permission before the final film is delivered by emailing contact@echoesoflife.ai. We will stop work and delete your materials. Fees for work already completed may apply as stated in your order. If you have allowed us to show excerpts and later change your mind, email us and we will remove them within 10 days from anywhere we control.

Electronic signature

You agree to sign this form electronically and to receive it and related notices electronically. Your electronic signature has the same effect as a handwritten one. We will email you a copy. You may ask for a paper copy at any time.
